The NR Barton story
NR Barton can trace its story back to 1948, when founder Norman Richard Barton opened the firm from offices in King Street, Wigan. A lot has happened in the last 70 years as the firm has grown and developed.
Roger Mason joined the firm in 1962, becoming a partner in 1970 and this coincided with our move to 20 Bridgeman Terrace (we then expanded into 19 and 21 too).
The firm continued to grow throughout the 1970s and 1980s, building on its core client base of local small and medium sized businesses.
David Shirley joined the team in 1976 with Graham Potter arriving as partner in 1996.
John Schofield joined the practice as a partner in 2001 along with Adrian Farrimond who originally joined as a manager before becoming partner in 2007.
Following almost 50 years’ service, Roger retired in 2007, with Cathy Rogers joining to become partner.
Neil Whittingham joined NR Barton in 2007, becoming partner in 2014 following the retirement from the practice of Graham Potter in 2016.
Paul Farrington joined the team in 2018 as a partner with David Shirley retiring as a partner in 2019.
The firm continues to go from strength to strength moving to new state of the art office premises at Waterside House, as the refreshing approach to accountancy advisory services is proving to be a big success with clients.
